After previously clinching four stage wins at the new rally run by the Dakar Rally’s organisers, the Volkswagen factory pairing of Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn (E/F) won the last of the total of seven specials as well, relegating Stéphane Peterhansel (Mitsubishi) to second place overall by 2.01 minutes. A third-place finish was the overall rally début result claimed by Dieter Depping/Timo Gottschalk (D/D) in the Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 powered by an innovative TDI diesel. The German duo set the day’s second-best time on the final stage from Veszprem (Hungary) to Balatonfüred (Hungary), thus capturing a podium place in the duel with Luc Alphand (Mitsubishi).

At the Central Europe Rally, whose special stages covering over 1,000 kilometres and a total distance of about 2,600 kilometres resembled the first legs of the Dakar Rally in recent years, Volkswagen won all seven stages, thus remaining undefeated in Hungary and Romania. The final leg saw the unfolding of a real thriller, with Carlos Sainz and Stéphane Peterhansel fighting – as on previous stages – for overall victory with merely seconds separating them. The race for third overall – rather untypical for cross-country rally events – was about seconds as well: Dieter Depping, stage winner on the second day, kept the upper hand on the final, 155-kilometre special stage, with a 54-second lead over Luc Alphand.

The third Race Touareg that was still in the race captured a top position too: Carlos Sousa/Andreas Schulz (P/D) finished fifth overall in the vehicle fielded by the Lagos customer team. However, for the two factory duos Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/RSA) and Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (RSA/D), the Central Europe Rally, ended prematurely after roll-over accidents on the first and fifth leg, respectively.

For the Race Touareg powered by a 280-hp, 2.5-litre TDI diesel engine, this marked the eighth overall victory in 22 cross-country rally events since 2004. In addition, the vehicle has a tally of 68 stage wins and 55 days of being the lead vehicle in the field.

昨年の台風9号の影響により、被災した西湘バイパスでした。
暫定的に片側1車線通行でしたが、コレで混雑緩和になるでしょうか。

◆「人災」だったバイパス崩落
　昨年９月６〜７日に県西部を襲った台風９号で、相模湾沿いに走る「西湘バイパス」（２０・８キロ）に猛烈な高波が打ち寄せ、大磯町から二宮町にかけての路盤約１・１キロが崩落するなど前例のない被害となった。
　国交省横浜国道事務所によると、現場周辺には台風前に３０〜４０メートルに及ぶ砂浜があったが、一晩で波にさらわれ、波を防ぐ擁壁が倒壊、車道下の地盤が浸食されて道路が陥落した。
　国交省が設置した「西湘バイパス構造物崩落に関する調査検討委員会」の委員長で、土木研究センター・なぎさ総合研究室の宇多高明室長は、「砂浜がやせて“体力”が落ちているところに強い波が襲い、被害が大きくなった。起きるべくして起きた。同じような被害はまた起こりうる」と警鐘を鳴らす。
　道路や地盤を波から守ってきた緩衝地帯の砂浜の衰退が、一挙に路盤崩落へとつながった。最大風速３５メートルの暴風がもたらした自然災害ではあるが、山の砂が川を下って海に流れ落ちる、自然本来の「連続性」を人間が断ち切ってきた〈人災＞だったともいえる。
　県では近年、ダムの上流にたまった砂を下流に置き、洪水時に下流にはき出す「置き砂」や、土砂を砂浜まで運ぶ「養浜(ようひん)」などの砂浜再生事業に取り組んでいる。
　宇多室長は指摘する。「自然にあらがうことはできず、砂浜再生には、上流から砂を運ぶなどの地道な取り組みを続けるしかない。さらに、少しでも多くの砂を浜にとどまらせるため技術の粋を尽くすべきだ。結果を急ぐあまり、人工物を建設するのでは、自然豊かな砂浜は取り戻せない」

しかし、道路は復旧しましたが根本的な解決がされているかは微妙ですね。

Volkswagen’s second joint-venture in China with local car manufacturer FAW, introduced the VW Shanghai Lavida’s alter-ego, the new Bora sedan at the Beijing Show. Compared to the Lavida that we showed you earlier today (click here), the VW FAW Bora retains the same wheelbase (2,610 mm), but it’s a tad shorter at 4,540 mm. Visual differences between the two compact sedans include the Bora’s restyled front and rear end along with the different shape of the rear doors.
Like its VW Shanghai counterpart, the 2009 Bora will be offered with a choice of two 4-cylinder gasoline engines that can be paired to either a manual or a six-speed. The new Bora will be available in China in two equipment lines "Trendline" and "Comfortline". Standard features include ABS, front passenger airbags, power steering, power windows, climate control system and a CD-Radio (MP3-capable). The top version Comfortline adds 15-inch alloy wheels, sliding sunroof, chrome package, anti-theft warning system, and cruise control and parking sensors.

　輸入自動車販売大手のヤナセ（東京都港区）が２００９年にも持ち株会社へ移行することを検討していることが１８日、分かった。年内にも結論を出す。将来的には株式上場も視野に入れる。移行案では、現在ヤナセ本体で手がけるメルセデス・ベンツ車の販売を新たに設立する専売会社に移管。ＢＭＷやアウディ、ボルボなどの自動車を扱う既存の専売会社とともに持ち株会社の傘下にぶら下げる。ヤナセ本社の機能は各ブランドの統括業務に特化し、透明性の高い収益構造の確立を図る考えだ。

　■本社はブランド統括に特化

　ヤナセは現在、ベンツの販売業務とともに、ＢＭＷやアウディ、ボルボ、ゼネラル・モーターズ（ＧＭ）など各ブランドの専売会社を統括する２つの役割を担っている。今年、策定した１０年９月期を最終年度とする中期経営計画で本社機能の改革を掲げており、今回の持ち株会社構想はその一環で浮上した。

　さらに、今秋をめどに不採算のブランドからの撤退や、赤字店舗の統廃合なども検討していく方針。撤退対象のブランドにはクライスラーやボルボなどが浮上している。ただ、既存の顧客への影響を見極めた上で慎重に検討するという。

　ヤナセグループの新車販売台数の約６割を占めるメルセデス・ベンツでは現在、販売店の改装を順次進めており、来年以降には完了する見通し。ＢＭＷ、アウディに関しても「日本人に合う輸入車は最終的にはドイツ製のみ」（ヤナセ首脳）として重点的に取り扱う考えを示唆している。ヤナセでは持ち株会社化を機に選択と集中に向けた動きを加速していく方針だ。

もしかしたらドイツ車以外のブランドの完全撤退もありうるかも･･･

森戸の蕎麦屋に行ったんですが、混んでいて入れなかったので彷徨っていて見つけたお店です。
店内に入ると満席でしたが、すぐに席につけました。
調理処とは別に、店内から蕎麦を打つところも見れるようになっています。

昭和天皇も愛したお蕎麦屋さん。御用邸のすぐ近く、かといって場所がそうさせるわけでない。このお店、実は皇室やその関係者だけでなく、政界や財界そして文化人のファンも多い。
こういったファンを集めるのは、生粉打ち（きこうち）と呼ばれる十割そば（つなぎをつかわない蕎麦）。化学調味料など一切使わず、使用する水にもこだわり、天然の味を大切にした手打ち蕎麦。そしてこのお店、旨い酒（清酒）を楽しむお店としても馴染みの客を満足させる。「日本人なら一つくらい旨い馴染みの蕎麦屋を持っておくべき」と某有名大学の元学長が新聞ですすめたのがこの一色なのです。

そんな凄いお店とは知らないで行きましたが、納得させるぐらい美味しいお蕎麦でした。

IT’S another small car design masterclass from Citroen! Supermini buyers are set to be spoiled for choice as the French giant is putting the finishing touches to its distinctive new C3.
And as these exclusive Auto Express pictures reveal, this is a great-looking three-door. Back in Issue 991, we showed you images of the 2CV-inspired five-door C3, but that model appears pretty conservative next to the outlandish newcomer.
Taking a similar approach to the C4, designers aim to make two distinct versions of the C3 to appeal to very different groups. The practical five-door will offer a more conventional body, while the three-door is intended to tempt younger buyers.
In Issue 1,007, we showed you the revised C2 – but Citroen bosses have already decided that this model does not have a long-term future.
Buyers after a budget machine can opt for the cheaper C1, while the more capable three-door C3 is set to fill the gap between the tiny city car and the next-generation five-door C3. As you can see, the new- comer has a similar appearance to its brother at the front (see panel), where it will have oversized front headlamps to make the body look narrower. The swollen wheelarches are another regular Citroen theme, but it’s when viewed from the side that the C3 is set to turn most heads.
Designers have taken the bold step of giving the roof a different colour to the body. This is made more striking by the prominent C-pillar, which separates the front and rear windows.
At the rear, the Citroen’s lines are just as eye-catching, with a shallow glass area and huge tail-lights. Having witnessed the success of MINI’s options packages, Citroen is likely to offer plenty of extras, which will include everything from body/roof colour combinations to alloy wheels.

VOLVOのXC60に対抗するモデルを計画中のようです。
しかし、今年の北京ショーで発表されるAUDI Q5のプラットフォームを使用しないとか!?

Volkswagen is planning to extend its existing line-up of four-wheel drives with a new mid-sized seven-seat offering to slot between the Tiguan and Touareg.
The new model, which could go on sale in 2011, has been conceived as a rival to Volvo's recently introduced XC60. But rather than using the same platform as Audi's upcoming Q5, the VW will be built on a modified version of the next-generation Passat, known internally as PQ47.
Using the lower cost Passat platform means the car will get a space saving transverse engine layout instead of the Q5's longitudinal arrangement. At the same time, it also paves the way for the Volkswagen Group to introduce possible Skoda and Seat variants of the four-wheel drive.

The auto giant is also on the verge of being taken over by Porsche and now its chairman, Ferdinand Piech, has expressed his desires to expand the group with the addition of a motorbike brand.
Speaking with German magazine Stern, Piech said he regretted not acquiring the Ducati label during the 1980s when the Italian sportsbike manufacturer was on the verge of bankruptcy and added that his dream of doing so had not died yet.
“I would still like a small, valuable motorcycle manufacturer,” he told reporters during a joint-interview with his cousin, Porsche supervisory board chairman, Wolfgang Porsche. “I myself drive a Ducati. 180 horses and more power per kilogram weight than a 1,001hp Bugatti.”
A number of carmakers have successfully manufactured and sold motorbikes in the past – most notably BMW with its Motorrad subsidiary dating back to the 1920s as well as Honda and Suzuki, who build some of the fastest production motorbikes in the world.

The Volkwagen Lavida (or La Vida, perhaps) is VW's China-only sedan that will go into production this summer. The car will be built in China by Shanghai Volkswagen, and could get the Chinese produced 1.4-liter TSI engine as well, but is more likely to come with a 1.8- or 2.0-liter engine.
　As a testament to VW's commitment to China, they haven't skimped on the car: it gets the PQ34 platform that sits under other VW Group products like the Bora and A4. Planned as a luxury car that will compete with the Buick Excelle, the car is 100 mm longer than the Bora and has been called a "mini Phaeton" by the Chinese motoring press.
The car's design has some split personalities and a bit of Zelig thrown in. If you look at the grille, it's obviously a VW. If you look anywhere else, well, it could be any number of Asian sedans -- but if you know it's a VW, you can also see VW cues, like the rear door line at the wheel well. Shanghai VW is expected to sell 8,000 Lavidas in the second half of this year.
